Long skirts with a high or elasticated waist, in linen, satin and fluid materials. The length falls to the ankle and the drape stays loose, to cover without stiffness. They are worn with the top tucked in — with a shirt they read formal, with a long-sleeve top, everyday.
Satin, linen and pleats
The satin skirts carry the most weight in the drape and are the ones that turn an outfit towards evening. Linen does the opposite: it holds air, creases honestly and is the summer skirt. The pleated skirt is the one that moves most — the pleats open when you walk and close when you stop, which is why it photographs the way it does.
Getting the length right
These are cut to the ankle. That is the point of them, so they are not designed to be taken up; a long skirt that has been shortened stops covering the way it was drawn. If you are shorter than average, the elasticated-waist styles sit higher and give back the length at the top rather than the hem.
What to wear on top
A long skirt asks for the top to be tucked, otherwise the two lengths compete. Everything in the tops collection is cut for that. In cooler months a jacket over a tucked top keeps the waist visible, which is what stops a long skirt reading as a single column.
