Women's Trousers

Pleated trousers with a straight or wide leg, cut to fall from the hip without marking. Several styles carry a back-elasticated waist: the line stays clean at the front and the comfort is won behind. With shirts or long-sleeve tops.

Straight or wide

The straight leg is the quieter of the two and the easier one to wear with a shorter top, because it keeps the vertical line unbroken. The wide leg moves more and reads more deliberate — in linen it is the warm-weather trouser, cut full enough that it behaves like a skirt while staying a trouser.

Where the waist sits

Pleats are set at the front, so the fabric falls away from the hip instead of gripping it. On the styles with a back-elasticated waist you get the flat front of a tailored trouser and the give of a soft one, which is what makes them the pair that gets worn through a long day.

Length and hems

Sizes run XS to XL. The lengths are cut for a flat shoe or a low heel; they are made to break at the shoe rather than pool on the floor. If you are between sizes and the fit is the waist, take the smaller — the pleats give at the hip, not at the waistband.
